Rules of My NBA

My basketball family, how is everyone doing? I am here to help you understand what my job is, as well as to lay down some rules. As the Professional League Developer, my job is to help mold all participants into responsible young men and women. You must learn to be accountable for YOUR actions, and to YOUR team. This means that you are to be aware of the consequences and repercussions that come along with your actions, as well as understand that you will be a part of a team that depends on each other. Being a team player is just as big a part of being a star as dropping 30 points a game is. My NBA is not based on 6 teams with one star player each; it is based on 6 teams with 12 players, all playing together towards a common goal, which is winning the league championship. Wanting to gain personal awards and accolades is not a problem, but it can become negative when it is the motivating factor to win games. Basketball is not a 1-on-5 game; there are 4 other players on the court with the same goals and objectives as you, everyone must be involved. If I can guarantee everyone one thing, it is this: if the MVP voting comes down to two players, and one is averaging 50 points a game, while the rest of his team averages 5 a game, and the other player averages 30 a game, and the rest of his team mates average 15 or 20, the second candidate WILL be the league MVP, NO DOUBT ABOUT IT.

Another large part of being a professional is being dependable. Players MUST arrive ON TIME at EVERY game. You need to be prepared, so bring your jerseys EVERY WEEK!! If you don’t have your jersey, you are still a part of the team, so sit on the bench with your squad and encourage them. Watch the game and give pointers and insight based on what you see on the court. Players must keep in mind all these features that will make them a professional. I am not laying down rules because of my authority and position; the rules are guidelines by which players are to follow. As young boys and girls turning into young men and women, you will be taught skills that you will use in your daily lives on and off of the basketball court, as well as develop a good moral character.

Furthermore, the following are basic rules that I, personally, will make sure are followed each game day:

1. No jersey = You riding the pine for the day (what I’m saying is you WILL NOT play)
2. If you try to wear someone else’s jersey because you forgot your own, you are suspended for that game as well as the next. I’m not having it.
3. If you come in the middle of a quarter, you are not eligible to play until the next one starts (i.e. if you come in the middle of the first half, you cannot play until the start of the next)
4. No cursing at other players will be tolerated. An immediate technical will be given and game suspension.
