Diwali is an annual religious celebration marking the start of the Hindu New Year. The exact dates change each year, but it typically falls between October and November. The word Diwali means ‘row of lights’ in Sanskrit. During this festival, people decorate their homes with lights and oil lamps, called diyas or vellakkus.

On October 25th, DBNC proudly celebrated Diwali with its’ staff, program participants, and students in the NYCE lounge. Featuring a live veena performance by Finance Director, Kothai Nadarajan, guests were invited to eat food, get henna drawn on their hands, play games, and connect with one another.

DBNC strongly believes that every culture should be celebrated authentically and enthusiastically. Our South Asian staff members turned up in beautiful sarees and lenghas, excited to partake in their culture, along with their colleagues. Sharing traditions, builds bridges and DBNC’s Diwali celebration was a time to shine and appreciate each other’s lights.

For all those who celebrate, Happy Diwali from DBNC!
